Viognier $20.00
One of the finest made in
the world....
Matching the right grape varieties with the right climate is the essence of viticulture. Our warm growing seasons in Virginia ripens our Viognier perfectly every year, producing a wine full of floral aromas, exotic tropical fruit surrounded by subtle oak nuances from barrel fermentation.
These grapes are ready for pickin' !!
This is a photo of the thick skinned/small cluster Viognier just before harvest. The skin of the Viognier grape is bitter, so we whole cluster press the fruit to get to the much needed juice, rather than destemming and crushing the grape at harvest like most of our other fruit.
The Horton Viognier is the most award winning Viognier in America!
"Horton is probably making USA's finest Viognier" Decanter Magazine
TWO PUFFS - Connoisseurs Guide To California Wine, May 1997
"Its gracious aromas smell distinctly of lemon and orange blossoms, and its bright and fruity flavors echo the citric leanings of the nose while bringing a touch of juicy melon to the fore."
ROBB REPORT - March 1997 - By Darryl M. Roberts
"Viogniers to watch for: By far the best Viognier currently made in the United States comes from Horton Vineyards in Orange County, Va. Yes, Virginia. Horton's 1994 ($20) offers rich, crisp pineapple, peach, fig, apricot ,and nectarine flavors swimming in heavenly floral spices, honey, and oak. It may be hard to find, but do whatever it takes to get a bottle."
